Jimmy Carter: Being Called ‘Worst President’ Is Better Than Being A Warmonger

Former President Jimmy Carter recently sat down with Ronan Farrow at the John F. Kennedy Library in Boston to discuss his new book, A Call to Action: Women, Religion, Violence, and Power.

At one point during the hour long conversation, the MSNBC analyst read a quote to the 39th President from John McCain. McCain speaking about current President Barack Obama said:

“I have never seen anything like this in my life. I thought Jimmy Carter was bad, but he pales in comparison to this president in my opinion.”

McCain’s comment was obviously using Jimmy Carter as an insult by insinuating his presidency is a gauge in which we should compare the worst presidencies ever.

Carter’s response was classic. The former Georgia Governor responded by saying

That’s a compliment to come from a war monger… I was lucky enough when I was president to keep our country at peace, and provide peace for others. I was lucky enough to go through my four years, we never shot a bullet or dropped a bomb or fired a missile.

I think it’s safe to say that Carter won’t be losing any sleep over McCain’s opinions.
