The unconscionable pigheadedness of police apologists (pun-intended) never ceases to amaze, even when they are ex-cops on national television. Ex-cop CNN’s Harry Houck actually had the audacity to victim-blame Sandra Bland in front of the entire world on CNN. As if ‘arrogance’ somehow justifies cold-blooded murder by cop.
What’s more fucking arrogant: not putting your cigarette out while outdoors when somebody tells you to or telling somebody to put their cigarette while outdoors? It’s perfectly legal to smoke while outdoors or in your own car (at least for the time being until the Nanny State dictates otherwise).
The dashcam footage shows arresting officer Brian Encinia instigating the situation. He could have just written her a ticket for improperly signaling a lane change and been off on his revenue collecting way. However most sadly that was not the case…
Encinia: OK, ma’am. (Pause.) You OK?
Bland: I’m waiting on you. This is your job. I’m waiting on you. When’re you going to let me go?
Encinia: I don’t know, you seem very really irritated.
Bland: I am. I really am. I feel like it’s crap what I’m getting a ticket for. I was getting out of your way. You were speeding up, tailing me, so I move over and you stop me. So yeah, I am a little irritated, but that doesn’t stop you from giving me a ticket, so [inaudible]ticket.
Encinia: Are you done?
Bland: You asked me what was wrong, now I told you.
Bland: So now I’m done, yeah.
Encinia: You mind putting out your cigarette, please? If you don’t mind?
Bland: I’m in my car, why do I have to put out my cigarette?
Encinia: Well you can step on out now.
Who isn’t irritated when they are getting pulled over? Bland was guilty only of not kissing the officer’s tight ass. Officer Encinia was obviously on a power trip and his power trip ultimately led to a tragic, unnecessary death. It’s time to call out irrational apologists of murderers with shiny badges. Harry Houck shouldn’t have a job at CNN or McDonalds. Ostracize assholes.
